THE SECRET GARDEN

THE SECRET GARDEN

AUTHOR: Frances Hodgson Burnet
Hi,I'm Swetha M from class 7.

I recently read the book 'The Secret Garden'.I was told about this book by my sister as she had seen the trailer of it's movie. She said that it is full of mysteries and that I should read it. I  like to read adventurous and mystery themed books and I decided to read it. I opened my favourite online e-book website and started reading immediately.I finished the book in a couple of days and it is one of the most adventurous and curious book I have ever read. It is about Mary Lennox ,a girl who was very weak, unfriendly and was short tempered and who  becomes orphan due to the cholera outbreak  and  is sent to  England with her uncle who is hunchbacked , rich but prefers to stay away from his mansion as much as he can as the garden and the place reminds him of his late wife as her death took place in an accident in the secret garden. Mary's personal servant Martha was the only one she liked at first. Martha tells Mary about the garden and why it was locked down by her uncle. Mary wanted to open the garden and wanted to know about the echos of cries of a child, who happens to be her cousin which she discovers later and which fills the rooms and corridors of the mansion during the night. As days passed ,her health and character improves as she finds  the secret garden and brings it back to life with Dickons, who is the brother of Martha and Colin whose cries was heard at night. She finds that Colin is handicapped when she meets him and that he is the only son of uncle and like Mary very  short tempered. Mary and Colin both get better after their meeting and Colin is able to walk. The theme of the book is healing as both Mary and Colin recover from their unfriendly character and to much healthier and friendly ones. I really enjoyed reading this book and it definitely was one of the best reading experiences I ever had. I highly recommend this book to all.

Thank you
Swetha M
